Aritar Gumpa, popularly knowns as Ari Gumpa is located approximately 1 km from Sunakhari Homestay. It is one of the oldest monasteries of Sikkim but is often missed by the tourists because of its secluded location. This sacred Buddhist monastery, embellished with best artifacts, finely carved and exotically painted murals, ancient manuscripts and traditional architecture, belongs to the Karma Kagyu lineage order of Tibetan Buddhism. On its visit, one can dwell into the rich traditional Buddhist art and literature. The periphery of the Gumpa is surrounded by colourful prayer flags and bells. Inside the Gumpa there is statue of Guru Padmasambhav. This is one of the main Gumpa of the Kagyupa sect of Buddhism. The tradition and the photos of the ancient culture are one of the main watchable of this Gumpa. In this Gumpa very ancient scriptures are being preserved. This treasured Monastery is only around fifteen minutes walking distance from our homestay.
